A Dutchman for All Seasons. The Life and Works of Erasmus of Rotterdam
(James McConica) The Low Countries - 1996, № 4, pp. 260-265
A portrait of the man 'of Rotterdam'. Erasmus died in Basel on 12 July 1536, leaving all his personal wealth to create a substantial charitable foundation whose beneficiaries were to be the poor, the disabled, the aged, girls with no dowries, and students in need. It was a legacy in keeping with his upbringing, and consistent with the ideals he professed.
