Emmy Andriesse died at the age of thirty-nine. She left behind 14,000 negatives. To this day no photographer in the Netherlands has had so much feel for the medium as she had. She was looking for something, for the exemplary that is so typical of her and she recognised it when she saw it: Andriesse didn't take photographs, she made statues.
