The position of women in Flanders and the Netherlands in the year 1996 is fundamentally different from what it was during the period between the wars and before. Not only has the situation changed, but it has changed in just those areas in which we were looking for changes during the first years ofthe second feminist wave. The author focuses on the increasing diversity among women and the participation of women in the labour force. In every area we see how relative the successes are. The struggle against this relativity — or the limitations — of success is proving more difficult than the struggle against oppression and discrimination itself.
