If one considers all the well-known Dutch sculptors who have built up a considerable body of work, there is none with such a relatively large proportion of sculptures for public spaces as André Volten. The square, the cube, the circle, the cylinder and the sphere dominate his work. They are the natural products of the metal industry, and Volten's lifelong preoccupation with these forms also springs from his wonder: he regards them as archetypes recognisable to all and possessing great beauty.
