Eva Gerlach: Virus

This week’s Friday Verses are written by the renowned Dutch poet Eva Gerlach. We translated the first of five poems from the Virus series. This poem first appeared in Dutch in Het Liegend Konijn, a magazine for contemporary Dutch-language poetry.

Eva Gerlach (Amsterdam, b. 1948) published almost twenty collections of poetry for adults and children between 1979 and 2019, of which Oog (Eye, 2019) is the most recent. Prizes awarded for her work include the Nienke van Hichtum Award, P.C. Hooft Award and Herman de Coninck Award. A new collection is due to appear this autumn.
