On 13 August 1914 the Gazette van Detroit for the first time addressed its readers, the Flemish immigrants in the United States and Canada. Despite a rather uncertain history, this weekly paper has kept its promise to its readers. In 2004 ‘The only Belgian newspaper in America' celebrates its nineteenth birthday.
