Youth theatre in the Low Countries is the subject of this article. Nijhof's survey shows that the social commitment and educational ideals of the sixties and seventies have given way to a theatre in which experience, imagination and the play itself are central. The standard of Flemish and Dutch youth theatre is now very high, but the author still argues for more innovation and even closer cooperation between the various companies and organisations.
