This Flemish illustrator, one of the best of his generation, is not afraid to experiment. He paints a world that is related to the world of the commedia dell'arte, where surreal and lifelike elements blend harmoniously. His figures often look like caricatures. Brueghel, Ensor and Bosch are always around. His work has given children's literature new colours, forms and structures, as well as breathing refreshing new life into it.
