Is it possible nowadays to think of any field whose historical dimension has not been insistently brought to our attention in recent years? Is it possible to think of any subject whose history or heritage is not being presented today as ‘interesting', ‘compelling' or ‘neglected'? Indeed, it's no exaggeration to say that history nowadays is coming at us from all sides. A great interest in history – or at least a considerable number of historical activities and representations – can be observed in recent years in the Netherlands and Flanders.
