The first Nits single, ‘Yes or No', was released in 1977, the year in which punk made its breakthrough on the international music scene. From that moment it was clear: The Nits were not punk, but an arty band influenced by the New Wave scene in New York. By the time they celebrated their 30th anniversary in 2004, they had been professionals for almost twenty-five years. Nits are without doubt among the most remarkable and most tenacious of the Netherlands' cultural ambassadors.
