Ruth Lasters: Wire

This week's Friday Verses are written by Ruth Lasters. We translated Snoer (Wire). This poem was first published in Dutch in Het Liegend Konijn, a magazine for contemporary Dutch-language poetry.

Ruth Lasters (Antwerp, b. 1979) made her debut with the novel Poolijs (Polar Ice), for which she was awarded the Flemish Debutants’ Prize for 2007. Her poetry debut Vouwplannen (Folding Plans) won the 2009 Liegend Konijn Debut Prize. In 2015 she published her second collection Lichtmeters (Photometers), which was awarded the Herman De Coninck Prize and was nominated for the VSB Poetry Prize. Lichtmeters has meanwhile been translated into German and Spanish. In 2019 she published her fourth novel VIN (Fin), a book about a young teacher trying to survive in a technical school.
