The Bluebirds of Ghent. One of Europe’s Hidden Gems?

It would be much too pessimistic to decide that Ghent has no surprises anymore or that the city has been sanitized and neutralized. If you stroll around the city you are bound to come unexpectedly upon architectural pearls from the many different layers of time of which the city is built and places of refuge where people of all layers of the population, with a motley collection of ethnic and religious background, do their own thing. If the bluebird of happiness can be found anywhere, it must be in Ghent.
