On 17 May 2007, the eve of the twenty-seventh anniversary of the death of the Joy Division singer Ian Curtis, Control, the first film by the Dutch photographer Anton Corbijn, had its premiere in Cannes. Control, which opened the ‘Quinzaine des réalisateurs' section, was Corbijn's fourth commemoration of Curtis, a musician who died far too young.
