WIELS and TANK Shanghai are collaborating on Convex/Concave: Belgian Contemporary Art, a large thematic exhibition featuring 15 contemporary Belgian artists.
The exhibition presents works by Francis Alÿs, Harold Ancart, Michaël Borremans, Jacques Charlier, Berlinde De Bruyckere, Jos de Gruyter & Harald Thys, Koenraad Dedobbeleer, Edith Dekyndt, Michel François, Ann Veronica Janssens, Thomas Lerooy, Mark Manders, Valérie Mannaerts, Luc Tuymans and Sophie Whettnall.
The selection of works departs from the capacity of Belgian art to make precise, detailed observations of the tangible, everyday world instead of relying on grand philosophical, abstract and conceptual schemes. In this respect, the art of the Low Countries shares many similarities with Chinese artists.
TANK Shanghai presents the exhibition for a period of three months, from 31 October 2019 till 12 January 2020. A specific space is dedicated to each individual artist in order to present an emblematic body of work that allows the public to delve into their creations and into contemporary art in the broad sense.
