Nederlands Dans Theater (Dutch Dance Theatre), the trailblazing ensemble whose preeminence has captivated the world, returns to City Center with three US premieres in celebration of the company’s 60th Anniversary Season. Its dancers, powerhouses of technique and artistry, bring uncommon depth to the physically demanding and theatrically nuanced repertoire

Nederlands Dans Theater, Shut Eye by Sol León and Paul Lightfood © Rahi Rezvani
Shut Eye by Nederlands Dans Theater’s house choreographers - artistic advisor Sol León and artistic director Paul Lightfoot - conjures a darkly mysterious world whose inhabitants engage in ambiguous interactions both tender and detached. At once lyrical and athletic in their execution, the eight performers approach the work with their customarily compelling individuality, commitment, and control.

Nederlands Dans Theater, The Missing Door by Gabriela Carrizo © Rahi Rezvani
Gabriela Carrizo’s The missing door bends reality as it depicts an ugly nightmare where the living set is part of the violent action. This work epitomizes Nederlands Dance Theater’s tradition of embracing adventure and theatricality, as well as giving each of its creators the artistic freedom to pursue their unique vision.

Nederlands Dans Theater, Walk The Demon by Marco Goecke © Rahi Rezvani
Marco Goecke’s Walk the Demon builds upon a body of work that is unmistakably his own, with an exacting movement vocabulary that is his signature. Yet Goecke manages to create many textures with his extremely specific dance language, and the breathtaking precision and coordination of the dancers demonstrate Nederlands Dans Theater’s ability to embody Goecke’s vision like no other company.
