Edgar Tytgat was a child who was born old and did not get any older. Time had a special relationship with this man who had wanted to be a clockmaker. Critics did not really know what to make of him. But he became an exceptional painter. That fact was certainly sensed in his time too, but then, as now, seldom understood.
